Take-Two Interactive acquires the creator of Two Dots for $192 million
The publisher of Take-Two is going to buy the New York studio Playdots for $ 192 million. The latter develops minimalistic mobile games.
Take-Two reported on the final stage of negotiations. The exact date of the transaction has not yet been specified, but it is already known that the publisher will pay $90 million of the total amount in cash, and the remaining $ 102 million in shares.
According to Take-Two, this purchase will strengthen the company’s position in the mobile market.
“The acquisition of Playdots will diversify and strengthen Take-Two’s position in the mobile app market, especially in the segment of free-to-play casual games,” says Michael Worosz, executive vice president of Take-Two and head of Strategy and Independent Publications. “We are pleased to welcome Nira and the entire Playdots team to the Take-Two family and are encouraged by the potential of their developments and positive long-term contribution to our business.”
Playdots Studio will continue to be headed by its CEO Nir Efrat (Nir Efrat) and lead a team of 70 people.
Playdots is a developer of mobile games Dots, Two Dots and Dots & Co., the total amount of downloads of which is more than 100 million. Most of the downloads (80 million) of the company were brought by Two Dots – an uncomplicated game in the “three in a row” format.
