Ubisoft may launch a Cloud gaming platform
Ubisoft has signed a long-term cooperation agreement with Parsec, which allows “playing in the cloud”. This could be the beginning of the French publisher’s competition with projects like Google Stadia and Nvidia GeForce Now.
On August 3, it became known about the deal between these two companies. According to the GameSpot portal, Ubisoft will use Parsec technologies to conduct demonstrations and in-game events
Not so long ago, Ubisoft and Parsec already worked together at the Ubisoft Forward digital conference. There, Parsec helped provide remote access to the demo versions of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Watch Dogs: Legion for hundreds of gamers and journalists.
Given that it is not yet known how long the restrictions will last due to the pandemic, this way of holding online events could replace traditional presentations and exhibitions.
“By collaborating with us, Ubisoft will create more of the same [as Ubisoft Forward]. No matter where people are, and no matter what they play, the game will look realistic and authentic for them,” Parsec writes in his blog.
The vice-president of Ubisoft’s network services department Stephanie Perotti also speaks about this:
“We are pleased to conclude a deal with Parsec,” Stephanie says. “Their streaming technology gives players a way to play in a new way and at the same time preserves the quality of the game. With this deal, we are strengthening our streaming capabilities for the needs of the company itself and the platforms with which players interact.”
However, Ubisoft has previously collaborated with other platforms for “games in the cloud”. Her games make up a significant part of the Google Stadia and Nvidia GeForce Now catalogs. Among them are Ghost Recon Breakpoint, The Division 2, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Just Dance, Trials Rising and The Crew 2.
The EGM publication expressed concerns that the partnership with Parsec hides Ubisoft’s intention to develop its own cloud gaming platform and start competing with cloud gaming services. In this case, Ubisoft can withdraw its titles from Google Stadia and Nvidia GeForce Now and earn money by distributing games already through its subscription.
Ubisoft left this statement without comment.
