Revenues of the MMO shooter Warframe last year fell by 12%
China’s Leyou Technologies reported for 2019. The most interesting thing in the report is the Warframe indicators. During the year, the popular game lost 12.2% of revenue, but attracted 9.3 million players.
Warframe
Here are the main figures from the document published by the holding:
- Leyou Technologies earned $214.2 million in 2019. This is 5.9% less than in 2018. The decline is explained by the fact that the most profitable segment of the company — gaming – has sunk.
- This main segment generated $182.2 million in revenue for the year. Most (without specifics) of the revenue came from Warframe from the “daughter” of Digital Extremes holding.
- Warframe’s revenue, however, also declined — by 12.2% year-on-year. There are three reasons: competition with similar titles; a drop in revenue on PS4 and Xbox One due to the upcoming launch of a new generation of consoles; and rarer Warframe updates due to the parallel work of the holding on a new game – Empyrean.
Despite these reasons, Warframe is still gaining an audience well. By the end of 2019, the number of its users amounted to 57.4 million – 9.3 million more than the year before. As a percentage, the annual audience growth reached 19.5%. As Digital Extremes expects, the game’s performance will soar even more with the release of the PS5 and Xbox Series X and other, as yet unnamed, devices.
Leyou Technologies is a Chinese holding company that has been engaged in poultry farming in the past. Five years ago, a group of companies invested in game dev and began to develop as a game publisher. Digital Extremes is one of its affiliates and a developer, also known for universe games Unreal. He helped in their development of Epic Games.
