SuperData: $9.2 billion was spent on digital versions of games in February

Analysts from SuperData summed up the results of last month in digital retail. According to their estimates, its annual growth was 4%, reaching $9.2 billion.

Top Digital Game Sales for February 2020
The main driver of growth is mobile games.

Compared to February last year, their revenue increased by 16%.

The situation in the market of console and PC games is more sad. Both niches “fell” in money — by 22% and 6%, respectively.

The reason is obvious: the lack of major AAA releases. Recall that a year earlier in February, Anthem and Apex Legends came out, whose current revenue did not grow at all compared to the starting figures.

SuperData generally notes that the console frituplay decreased in sales by 45% compared to February 2019, and the console premium segment — by 17%.

Analysts also report that:

  • the spread of COVID-19 in February did not have a strong impact on the markets of North America and Europe, mainly it began to affect the behavior of players only in March;
  • mobile Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle has added well in earnings for February: its monthly revenue reached $78 million (the main amount was earned in Japan, native to the game);
  • Counter-Strike: Global Offensive achieved a MAU of 24 million in February. Analysts say that the long-term effect of the introduction of a system of combat passes and skins for fighters in November 2019 has affected. They say it won’t be for long. In March, the CS audience:GO can go to Call of Duty: Warzone and Valorant.
  • Coin Master slots earned $87.1 million in February. This is a record monthly earnings for a game in which I took part in advertising Jennifer Lopez (Jennifer Lopez).
