2K Games created a new studio and gave it the development of the next BioShock
Publisher 2K Games has launched a new game studio. It’s called Cloud Chambers and is working on the next game in the BioShock series.
The creation of an internal studio 2K officially announced today. However, the current head of the studio, judging by the information on LinkedIn, was appointed to this position almost two years ago.
What is known about Cloud Chambers
- Its head was industry veteran Kelly Gilmore (Kelley Gilmore). She is involved in more than 40 projects, including Sid Meier’s Civilization and XCOM franchise games.
- The staff will be distributed between Novato (California) and Montreal. The first office was given to Gilmore. The second one will be managed by one of the former general managers of Zynga Ken Schachter.
- How many developers are in Cloud Chambers now is not mentioned. On the 2K Games website, there were two dozen vacancies in both offices of the studio.
- Cloud Chambers is developing a new BioShock. The creator of the franchise Ken Levin (Ken Levin) is not involved in this. Little is known about the project: it is at the pre-production stage and will not be released in the coming years. The game may not even be a direct continuation of the series. To summarize the latest rumors about the development, it started about two years ago.
The last released part of the series is now BioShock Infinite (2013). It was released by Irrational Games, which closed a year after its release. It is unknown whether there are employees of this studio in the staff of Cloud Chambers.
Let’s add: Kotaku editor Jason Schreier spoke about the situation with the studios involved in BioShock. According to him, since 2013, 2K Games has not admitted that it closed 2K Marin (the authors of BioShock 2). “In the years that followed, 2K pretended that the studio still existed, but it didn’t,” Schreier wrote on Twitter.
