Pokémon: Sword was the biggest launch among console exclusives this year in the UK
On November 15, the Switch titles Pokémon: Sword and Pokémon: Shield were released. The first one bypassed all console exclusives of the year in terms of initial sales in British retail.
According to Eurogamer, in terms of sales in the first week, Sword was more successful than Luigi’s Mansion 3 for the Nintendo Switch, as well as Days Gone and Death Stranding for PS4.
If we forget about exclusives, this year only Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and FIFA 2020 sold more copies on release than Sword.
Sword’s retail sales in Britain helped it take the top spot in last week’s chart. Shield, as well as the general collection Sworld and Shield (Dual Edition) are not much inferior. Therefore, now the British top 10 consists of almost a third of Pokemon games. And more than half are from Switch exclusives.
UK chart for November 10-16:
1. Pokémon Sword
2. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
3. Pokémon Shield
4. COD: Modern Warfare
5. FIFA 2020
6. Luigi’s Mansion 3
7. Pokémon Sword and Shield: Dual Edition
8. Death Stranding
9. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
10. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020
The release of Sword and Shield was the second largest launch of Pokemon games in Britain. They couldn’t get around on the release of Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon for 3DS. But sales of new products are 50% higher than those of Let’s Go, Pikachu! And Let’s Go, Eevee! last year.
