Death Stranding sets records in Japan. The best start of a new IP since Dark Souls
Sales of the console version of Death Stranding in Japan amounted to almost 186 thousand copies in the first week. The game turned out to be the largest launch of a new IP in the region for the current generation of consoles.
As follows from the table below, in Japan, Death Stranding is the largest launch of a new IP on consoles since the original Dark Souls. Note that we are talking about retail sales, not in numbers.
This table was compiled by a Game Data Library specialist. Data on Death Stranding was confirmed by the Japanese magazine Famitsu, which published the top game sales in Japan for November 4-10.
The title surpassed the sales of the previous record holder from Sony — Bloodborne. It sold 152 thousand copies in Japan seven days after its release.
However, as a game by Hideo Kojima, Death Stranding didn’t start so well. Its sales in Japan for the week were lower than all parts of Metal Gear Solid. For example, the result of the PS4 version of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain for a week in Japan is 293 thousand copies, writes Cog Connected.
Earlier, Death Stranding was the second launch of the year among new IP in the UK. She conceded only Days Gone.
