Gamers Spent $8.9 billion on digital versions of Games in September

SuperData has published a traditional monthly report on video game sales in numbers.

Borderlands 3 is one of the central releases of September 2019
The analytical company reports that sales totaled $8.9 billion in September.

This is 1% less than in September 2018. Compared to August of this year, revenue has not changed.

The situation by market segments

Stagnation is caused by falling sales in the market of console and desktop games. The former lost 17% in revenue compared to last year, the latter — 3%.

According to SuperData experts, this situation happened despite the appearance of a number of new products on the market. Among them: Gears 5, Borderlands 3 and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening.

At the same time, mobile continues to grow. In September 2019, this segment grew by 6% compared to September 2018. As a result, it accounted for 59% of the total market.

Gaming Sales

Although the release of Borderlands 3 could not slow down the decline in sales of the entire market of console and desktop games, it sold very well. 2K Games managed to sell 3.3 million digital copies of the game in a month. SuperData does not report exactly how much the game earned, but writes that the average cost of the game was $69 per copy (many bought the Deluxe Edition).

Mobile Fate/Grand Order can also boast of success at the end of September. She earned $246 million in a month. This is almost 2 times more than in this August and 2.5 times more than in September last year. This growth was mainly due to the strengthening of the game’s position in the Chinese market.

But Fortnite sales last month showed the worst results since September 2017. In the first month of autumn, the game earned 43% less than in the same period a year earlier. However, in October, the continuation of the fall should not be expected. Recently, the Epic Store game released a large-scale update “Chapter 2”.
