NPD: 73% of Americans play video games

The number of gamers is growing in the USA. Their share of the total population of the States reached 73% (last year 67% considered themselves players).

These are the results of a survey by NPD Group analysts of 5,000 US residents over two years old.

Not only the audience is growing, but also its costs (both in terms of money and time), writes Gamesindustry.biz .

Now the games are being taken away:

  • 11% of the funds that the consumer spends on entertainment;
  • 17% of the time he also devotes to entertainment (the majority of respondents play every or almost every day on mobile devices).

Separately, the NPD Group focuses on children from 2 to 17 years old:

  • more than a third of young gamers spend more time playing games than a year ago;
  • and 20% spend more money on them than a year ago.

“Children are becoming an increasingly important part of the gaming market thanks to games like Fortnite and Minecraft. This is facilitated by the growing influence of YouTube and Twitch on them,” says analyst Mat Piscatella.
