CD Projekt has revealed its business model and revenue distribution by region
Polish CD Projekt has published a document with various information about itself. It has data on regional sales and even a business model diagram.
Income
According to the document, CD Projekt’s revenue in 2018 was distributed as follows:
- USA — 55%;
- Europe — 25%;
- Asia — 9%;
- Poland — 4%.
Note that the publisher has an office in North America, two offices at home, media managers in three European capitals and one Asian division. Now CD Projekt has a total staff of more than 1000 people worldwide. Last year there were about 900 of them.
Business model
CD Projekt also revealed its business model (the main directions of the company’s work). It is shown in the diagram below:
- community: honest direct interaction with gamers, full control over messages;
- Distribution: Global distribution with the help of retail and distribution partners carefully selected in 109 countries. Direct sale of digital products for PC and consoles, including through GOG.com;
- edition: when conducting all operations, they proceed from the philosophy: “Taking care of gamers first!”;
- technology: The internal REDengine engine, adapted for open-world storylines in the RPG genre. The company is also ready to adjust its hard drive to new tasks;
- development: an experienced development team for which quality is an absolute priority;
- concept: own IP (or acquired rights to it, as in the case of theWitcher) and full control over the creation of the concept. The company is focused on two franchises and a certain number of products.
The company published all this information together with data on shareholders. Most of the shares are in free circulation. CD Projekt’s management has only 34%, and Marcin Iwinski, its founder, was the holder of the largest number of shares (12.64%).
We should add that sales of theWitcher trilogy have now exceeded 40 million copies.
