Walmart refused to advertise violent video games, but left firearms on sale

The Walmart retail chain decided to play it safe after the US president’s recent attack on video games. The company ordered to remove ads with violent scenes from video games. But I did not remove the weapons from the sale.

According to Gamasutra, Walmart decided to remove the game banners after the shooting in El Paso and Dayton. The tragedy in these American cities was indirectly linked by President Donald Trump to the games. According to him, “horrific video games glorifying violence have become commonplace.”

The retail chain did not explain its decision. But her move looks like a direct consequence of Trump’s statements. At the same time, you can buy firearms in its stores, and this fact has already been ridiculed online. Moreover, a petition was created demanding to stop the sale of weapons at Walmart. To date, 54 thousand people have signed it.

Mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton claimed the lives of 31 people. More than twenty others were injured. Since Trump unexpectedly linked the incident to video games, the shares of major game publishers (Activision Blizzard, EA, Take-Two, Zynga) fell by 4-6%.
