74% of adult gamers complain of aggressive behavior in online games
Adult gamers too often encounter aggressive behavior of other participants in multiplayer games. This problem affected 74% of the players.
This was stated by human rights activists from the Anti-Defamation League (Anti-Defamation League), Kotaku reports. They conducted a survey among more than 1,000 players in order to find out how widespread sexism, racism and extremism are in online games.
- 74% of gamers complain about aggressive behavior on the part of other players.
- 65% of respondents recalled cases when they were harshly intimidated by other players. We are talking about both verbal threats and harassment.
- The most vulnerable group is female players. 40% of them admitted that they became victims of aggression in online games precisely because of their gender.
- About a third of the players believe they were harassed because of their sexual orientation. Persecution due to ethnicity is also not uncommon.
- 29% of players were horrified by the fact that unknown players extracted private information about them and published it online.
- 23% witnessed the discussion of extremist topics in game chats.
- Most often, gamers complain about toxic interaction in games such as Dota 2, Overwatch, CS:GO and League of Legends. In the latter, only 37% of gamers are now satisfied with communicating with other players. (Perhaps this is due to the recent scandals over Riot Games’ policy towards its staff.)
Another interesting fact: 35% of players admitted that they themselves behave badly in multiplayer games. For example, they insult others or engage in trolling.
The Anti—Defamation League is an American non-governmental organization that protects the rights of the Jewish population. She explained her desire to conduct such a question by the fact that before that there was no accurate data on the degree of harassment, racism and sexism in online games.
