Epic Games Store opened in China, but it was not immediately noticed

Earlier this week, Chinese players got access to the Epic Games Store. But officially Epic Games did not report anything.

According to the Chinese portal Techweb, Epic Games Store was “quietly unblocked” on the world’s largest gaming market. Now that the news has spread, the media suggest that Epic Games hoped to stay in the shadows.

She could have made this decision due to the strict policy of the Chinese authorities regarding the licensing of games. Recall that for a long time the passage to China was closed even for Steam. But last year it became known that Valve and Perfect World are preparing a regional version of the store — Steam China.

As for the Epic Games store, the company responded evasively to PCGamesN‘s request: “We view the Epic Games Store as a global service and want to make it available to players in any region.”

According to Chinese Reddit users, for them the prices for temporary exclusives (at least for Metro Exodus and Borderlands 3) in the Epic Games Store are lower than North American ones. Payment in the store is made via WeChat and AliPay, but not by Chinese credit cards.
