UK: the deal between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard will not harm the console market

The British antitrust regulator has published new preliminary findings regarding the purchase of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft. He no longer believes that the deal will cause significant damage to competition in the console games market.

The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said it had carefully examined all the fresh arguments for and against the deal. The agency agreed that it is unprofitable for Microsoft to make Activision Blizzard games, including Call of Duty, exclusives of the Xbox ecosystem.

Nevertheless, the CMA still has concerns about the impact of the deal on the cloud gaming market.

The regulator should make a final decision no later than April 26.
