China has allowed 30 foreign games to be published
China has received permission to publish the first foreign titles. The new list of games approved by the Chinese government, for the first time since the resumption of licensing, includes 30 foreign, including nine Japanese and six American.
Among them — 22 mobile games, five desktop and three console, reports Gamesindustry.biz . Among them there are titles for the Game of Thrones, Angry Birds, Dragon Ball, One Punch Man and Battlerite franchises, as reported in the analyst Daniel Ahmad’s thread.
According to Niko Partners, after the lifting of the ban on publishing games in China, 989 titles received licenses. 959 of them were created by Chinese studios, and for the most part they are mobile games. Since December 19, Chinese authorities have published a dozen lists of approved games. Only recently, games from NetEase and Tencent began to appear in the lists.
It should be noted that in the first quarter of last year, almost 2 thousand games received licenses. Almost half of them were poker or mahjong. However, since the games began to be licensed in China again, the country has not approved any such titles. Perhaps this explains the fact that in the first three months of 2019, the number of approved games fell by half in annual terms.
