Square Enix will reduce the number of its divisions
But the staff will remain the same.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider
Square Enix has planned a restructuring.
It will combine 11 of its divisions into four, hoping to increase the efficiency of its work processes and increase profits.
At the beginning of the month, the publisher reported for the third fiscal quarter. The report showed that Square Enix is not going smoothly. Total operating profit fell by 65.3% year-on-year. The profit from the entertainment segment decreased by more than half. A number of games — Just Cause 4, Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Dragon Quest Builders — did not sell as well as the publisher expected. For example, the fact that 4.12 million copies of the new Tomb Raider were shipped by December 31, Square Enix considered it a bad start.
All this led the management of Square Enix to the idea of redistributing resources. The restructuring will begin in April this year, according to Gamesindustry.biz . At the same time, the staff will not be reduced, said the president of the company Yosuke Matsuda (Yosuke Matsuda).
The changes will affect only the Japanese branch. Note that the “family” of Square Enix includes such studios as Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal, etc.
