Finnish Supercell’s financial indicators have been falling for the second year. However, its chief executive Officer Ilkka Paananen (Ilkka Paananen) believes that the company is already doing well.

  • The company’s revenue amounted to $1.6 billion for the year. In 2017, revenue was $2.03 billion, and in 2016 – $2.3 billion.
  • Pre-tax profits are also falling. In 2018, it dropped to $635 million. A year earlier it was $810 million, and in 2016 it was $1 billion.
  • However, the above results can be considered very good for a studio with 283 employees on staff, VentureBeat reports.

I was asked if I, as CEO, was disappointed that the indicators decreased in annual terms. Of course, it would be great if the numbers were always growing. But short-term financial performance has never been a top priority for me or for the company.

  • Three weeks before the end of 2018, the company released the mobile Brawl Stars. According to Sensor Tower, its revenue during this time amounted to $46 million. The audience of the game has reached 80 million people. And this game has not yet been released in China.
  • Hay Day, Clash of Clans, Boom Beach and Clash Royale — each of these games brought Supercell at least $1 billion after its release.
  • At the same time, the total revenue of Clash of Clans and Clash Royale reached $ 10 billion. This is more than the box office receipts of all the “Harry Potter” films (they have $9.1 billion).
