Tencent and NetEase games are ignored by Chinese Regulators for the third time
In the Middle Kingdom, 93 more games were allowed to be published. This is the third selection of approved projects since December. However, there are still no projects of the two leading gaming companies in the country “on the lists”.
There is no official data explaining this moment.
Ilya Gutov, an expert on the Chinese market, in an interview with App2Top.ru He noted that it is not necessary to attach great importance to the absence of Tencent and NetEase games in the collections. Another thing is much more serious — only projects developed in China receive permission to publish. The process of licensing Western games has not yet moved forward.
Both points (the absence in the approved collections of both projects from Tencent and NetEase, as well as games from foreign companies) can, if desired, be explained by an exceptionally long queue of requests. As we wrote earlier, now about 7000 projects are waiting to receive the identification number necessary for the publication of the game in the country.
As analysts at Orient Securities stated in an interview with South China Morning Posts, in the latest selection of titles whose launch was approved, there are projects that were submitted for consideration back in April last year.
This is partly what Ilya says. According to him, “many games that applied for a license in 2017 are only getting it now.”
