Discord raised $150 million to develop its own game store
The company’s value was estimated at $2.05 billion.
Last Friday, December 21, the Discord messenger announced the completion of the next financial round. The company “raised” $150 million. The main investor was Greenoaks Capital. Tencent is also listed among the contributors.
According to VentureBeat, Discord management plans to make the service’s main source of revenue a recently launched game store and a Nitro subscription, which gives free access to a separate library of games and advanced communication functionality. The funds will be used, among other things, to attract new products to the store on exclusive terms.
Given the increased competition in the PC distribution platform market, Discord management is now striving to maximize the pool of its partners. Two weeks ago, the company also announced that from 2019 it will take only 10% from sales.
