The Minister of Education of the Russian Federation wants to limit the time working with gadgets, and the ombudsman compares games with drugs

The Minister of Education of the Russian Federation Olga Vasilyeva supported the Chinese experience in regulating the time that schoolchildren spend on electronic devices, and the Commissioner for Human Rights for the Russian Federation Tatyana Moskalkova called gambling a problem of today.

Today, on November 7, the Coordinating Council of the Commissioners for Human Rights of Russia was held. Unexpectedly, he touched upon topics related to the gaming industry. The statements were not made in the best way for the industry.

Vasilyeva and the Chinese experience

The Minister of Education noted that “In China, the working hours of schoolchildren with electronic devices are strictly regulated.” According to the online text broadcast on the RAPSI website, she supports this approach.

It is unclear whether Vasilyeva will put forward a proposal to legislatively limit the time spent by students on smartphones and computers. However, she initiated a study “that will answer the question of how much time Russian school students can spend in gadgets without harm to their health.”

Recall that in the Middle Kingdom, the task of limiting is on the developers. Although there are recommendations for parents. According to them, children should not play more than one hour a day, and each session should not last more than 15 minutes.

Moskalkova and gambling addiction

The statement of the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Russian Federation sounded sharper than the statement of the Minister. Moskalkova, who opened the Coordination Council with a reminder that today is the 101st anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution, called gambling almost a bigger problem than drugs.

“The problem of today is drug addiction is being replaced by gambling addiction and the departure of young people into the virtual world,” the Ombudsman said. According to Medusa, she proposed to increase the number of psychologists in the country’s schools. Moskalkova believes that they are necessary to combat this disease.

This is not the first statement of the Minister regarding gambling addiction. According to Regnum, in 2017, she spoke about the need to create specialized medical institutions in the country, whose main profile would just concern the treatment of adolescents from such dependence (we remind you, according to WHO, gambling addiction since June of this year is really considered a disease).

The gaming industry in Russia for the second time this fall is becoming the object of attention from government officials. After the Kerch tragedy, State Duma deputy Yevgeny Marchenko called for banning websites about computer games. A few days later, Senator Elena Mizulina said that she had sent an expert proposal to the Speaker of the Federation Council, according to which revolving fines for violence in computer games would be introduced.
