GOST for mobile applications has appeared in Russia

The preliminary national standard for mobile applications includes 87 requirements for developers, but all of them are advisory in nature, according to Roskachestvo.

Recall that the organization Roskachestvo, established by the Russian government, has been working on the standard for quite a long time: a year ago, the document was approved by the committee at Rosstandart. The full list of requirements has not yet been published.

Kommersant today cited some points from the standard. The document, in particular, recommends that the application have an “unambiguously interpreted privacy policy”, explain to users what personal data the application uses and who can access them, and allow them to refuse data collection.

Users’ personal data must be stored in Russia. Any paid application should be able to get a free trial of the functionality, regardless of monetization. The standard also recommends updating applications at least once a year, having only unobtrusive advertising and promptly answering user questions.

Experts interviewed by Kommersant note that there are very few specifics in the document, but more obvious recommendations, which, however, may be useful to novice developers who release applications in the Russian Federation. Moreover, even now, about 40% of applications simply will not pass the test for compliance with the requirements of such a standard.
