An Icelandic studio has raised $9 million to create social games
The Icelandic company Teatime Games received $9 million of investments at the seed stage of financing. The studio will direct the raised funds to the development of social games.
The main investor of Teatime Games was the venture capital firm Index Ventures. Previously, she financed projects of companies such as Supercell and King.
Teatime Games was founded by four Icelandic developers: Thor Fridriksson, Ymir Finnbogason, Johann Bergthorsson and Gunnar Holmsteinn.
The new studio intends to create social games, the gameplay of which will focus on the interaction between players in real time.
According to Thor Fridriksson, this will give players a new experience, since most of the existing social games are focused on turn-based gameplay.
Fridriksson and his friends are not new to creating social games. In 2013, they developed a mobile quiz QuizUp, whose audience today exceeds 100 million people.
