Sega will release a mini version of the Mega Drive
Sega has announced the release of a smaller version of the 16-bit Mega Drive Mini console. The retro console was presented at the Sega Fes 2018 festival, held on April 14 in Tokyo.
The release of the Mega Drive Mini is timed to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the original Sega Mega Drive, which was released in October 1988.
There is very little information about the new retro console yet. The company did not specify the exact release date, price and configuration of the device. There is also no data on whether it is planned to ship the Sega Mega Drive outside Japan.
Retro and mini fashion
The trend for the release of miniature versions of classic consoles of the 90s was set by Nintendo, which released mini−versions of the NES Classic Edition and Super NES Classic Edition consoles in 2016-2017.
Due to the high demand and limited edition on the NES Classic Edition, those wishing to buy the product faced a shortage. As of April last year, 2.3 million consoles were sold worldwide.
Released in October last year, the Super NES Classic Edition sold more than 4 million copies in 3 months.
