Tencent has opened WeChat for third-party games for the first time

For the first time, the Chinese corporation Tencent has allowed third-party companies to place their games on the platform of the popular messenger WeChat. A batch of new titles from the Tencent collaboration and other developers appeared on WeChat on April 4.

Facebook’s WeChat gaming platform works similarly to Facebook’s Instant Games. It presents titles with simple gameplay that do not require preloading.

According to the South China Morning Post, the platform offered developers to earn both from advertising and from IAP.

In the first case, they will receive from 30% to 50% of advertising revenue. In the second, developers will get 60% of the revenue. Note that in-game purchases are currently supported only on Android.

According to the Jeffries analytical firm, the daily audience of WeChat games is 170 million users, and the platform’s MAU reaches 1 billion people.

It is unclear whether Tencent plans to publish games from other studios on WeChat, or it was a one-time promotion.
