The most common event in match-3 is passing several levels for a reward
In 40% of the most profitable games in the match-3 genre, there is an event in which the player is invited to complete a certain number of levels for a reward. The analytical company Playliner told about this in its latest research.
The mechanics and visual embodiment of the event may differ from game to game. But its essence always boils down to the need to pass a given number of levels in a certain time. For this, the player is usually rewarded with a bonus or in-game currency.
The most popular kind of such event is the placement of chests with clocks on the level map. But there are also non-standard options. For example, in Homescapes, a player knits a scarf while passing levels. To get a chest, he needs to tie several rows on a scarf.
Another level and the player will receive a bonus
In most cases, the player is invited to collect three chests as part of the event.
Depending on the game, this may require completing from 8 to 20 levels, as, for example, it is done in Candy Crush Saga.
In most games there are only three chests and no more than 15 levels to complete them all
The event usually lasts two days.
This is the situation in 42% of top projects, but in the popular three-in-a-row Frozen Free Fall, a day is given for the entire event.
The value of the reward in terms of dollars is very much the difference from game to game. The most generous is Farm Heroes Saga. The final chest will save the player $7.2 in it. Disney turned out to be the most greedy developer. In the “Cold Heart” game, the player is given $0.99 for the third chest.
The most interesting table, which, however, does not take into account the complexity of the levels (in fact, how much the average player has to spend on passing the event)
The data was obtained by Playliner after analyzing 30 top three-in-a-row games in the American box office top.
