Progress is the main motivator for further play. This is what mobile gamers in the USA and Canada think
The main motive for a gamer to continue rather than quit the game is his desire to make progress in it. This is stated in a study by the analytical company Electronic Entertainment Design and Research (EEDAR), conducted in 2017 in North America.
3 thousand adults and 1 thousand teenagers participated in the EEDAR survey. They answered questions about their experience of mobile games and its aspects such as competition, cooperation, completing tests, immersion in the game, creating strategies, individualization, obtaining achievements and passing.
Based on the responses, EEDAR has compiled a rating of the factors that most motivate mobile gamers to continue playing.
Motivating factors to continue playing the mobile title, EEDAR
The most important component of the pleasure of the game was the feeling of advancement to a higher level.
The second most powerful was the passage of new stages and the improvement of their own records.
The third place was taken by the fulfillment of the tasks set by the player himself in the game.
The fourth and fifth positions were occupied by the discovery of new content and the full development of all game features.
Among the least important components of motivation for the game, the respondents attributed the ability to behave destructively, as well as compete, cooperate and simply communicate with other players.
Factors that do not affect the motivation to continue the mobile game, EEDAR
EEDAR researchers conclude that the average mobile gamer in North America is more inspired by the elements of single-player gameplay, such as game progress and the conquest of achievements.
100% of the survey participants called this experience motivating to continue the game.
Multiplayer features motivate players much less — they were rated by only 30% of EEDAR respondents.
