Paradox Interactive changes management for the sake of company development
In the management of the Swedish game publisher Paradox Interactive, there has been a castling. Paradox CEO Frederic Wester will head the company’s board of directors, and his post will be taken by board member Ebba Ljugerud. Wester has been the head of Paradox since 2009.
The changes will come into force in August this year.
In an interview with Game Industries, Wester and Lyngerud explained that the personnel changes are related to plans for the development of Paradox Interactive.
According to Vester, as head of the board of directors, he intends to expand the Paradox game portfolio and increase the audience playing the publisher’s titles.
“We will release more new games and attract new fans. I want to focus on this goal 100%. I used to pay less attention to this task, and I feel that I didn’t do enough,” Frederick Wester said.
The expansion of the Paradox gaming range may be associated with the purchase of new studios. According to Ebba Lyngerud, she has experience in the field of mergers and acquisitions of companies.
Paradox started buying gaming businesses a few years ago. In 2015, the Swedish publisher acquired the American company White Wolf, known for its role-playing universe World of Darkness.
In 2017, Paradox bought the Dutch studio Triumph Studios, which created the fantasy strategy Age of Wonders.
The last purchase of Paradox was a 33% stake in the American studio Hardsuite Labs, which developed a free-play MMO shooter Blacklight: Retribution. The deal took place in January of this year.
Paradox Interactive is primarily known as a publisher of global strategies. The company produces strategic series Europa Universalis, Hearts of Iron, Crusader Kings and others.
