The British will release a modern version of the Commodore 64. They promise soon
January 29, British Retro Games Ltd. Together with the German gaming distributor Koch Media has resumed active promotion of the THEC64 Mini — a miniature version of the Commodore 64 home computer.
The original Commodore 64 was launched by the American company Commodore International in 1982. The device got into the Guinness Book of Records as the best-selling home computer in the world. Over 12 years of release, over 15 million Commodore 64s have been sold.
The upcoming launch of THEC64 Mini is not the first attempt by Retro Games Ltd. to release a modern remake of the Commodore 64. Last year, the company started crowdfunding on the IndieGoGo platform, but did not collect the required amount of $ 150 thousand.
The announcement of the joint launch of the console with Koch Media took place in September 2017. Then for the first time the future price of the device was announced — $ 69.99.
64 games for Commodore are pre-installed in the console library. The device connects to a monitor or TV via HDMI and supports up to 720p resolution. The kit includes a classic joystick connected via USB.
In addition to games, you can write programs in BASIC on THEC64.
The creators promise to start deliveries “as soon as possible” in 2018 and have not yet indicated a price.
Retro Games Ltd. also report on the website about the imminent release of a full-size version of the Commodore 64, which is also scheduled for this year. This project has a separate page with information about the cost of the console at $150.
