Facebook is preparing a springboard to compete with Twitch
Facebook is developing its own platform for game streaming. As part of this, the company officially launched the Gaming Creator Pilot Program. The goal of the program is to attract new creators of gaming video content to Facebook and help them gain an audience.
Goals of the Gaming Creator Pilot Program:
- helping streamers develop their communities on Facebook;
- promotion and distribution of their content on the sites Facebook.com , Instagram and Oculus;
- support for streamers with tools for real-time game broadcasts;
- creating a platform for game streams.
Participants of the Gaming Creator Pilot Program will have access to a set of functions, among which there is an opportunity to broadcast in 1080p resolution and a frame rate of 60fps.
Similarly to Twitch and other streaming platforms, viewers of broadcasts on Facebook will be able to support the author they like with a money transfer.
To promote the Gaming Creator Pilot Program, the company announced a streaming event, which will be attended by both beginners and well-known gaming video bloggers.
The ability to broadcast on Facebook from any device appeared on the social network in March 2017.
According to the analytical company Streamlabs, in the 4th quarter of 2017, the number of active streamers on the Facebook platform increased by 62% and reached 27.5 thousand people.
By the number of active streamers at the end of 2017, Facebook ranked 4th, behind Twitch, YouTube Gaming and Periscope.
