Stardew Valley became the most downloaded game on Switch for 2017 in three months
Switch — the new indie patrimony? The role-playing simulator of the Stardew Valley farm last year overtook all other titles that came out in numbers on the Nintendo Switch in terms of downloads. It didn’t hurt that the game was released three months before the end of the year.
There is no information about whether the results of Stardew Valley are comparable in the number of copies sold compared to the blockbusters of the platform, whose main sales came from retail (The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey), but it is clear that bright projects from independent developers are very popular on the platform.
The top ten most popular projects on Switch also included indie projects such as Shovel Knight and Steamworld Dig 2. It is not surprising that the company is now actively looking for new projects in its digital store.
In particular, Tim Symons, Product Development Manager at Nintendo’s European office, is doing this. We mentioned it for a reason. Tim will be at White Nights, which will be held in Prague from February 13 to 14.
It is possible that there will be an opportunity to catch him and ask about how to get to the site and which games Nintendo is currently considering for its new console in the first place.
As for Stardew Valley, it became a hit long before it was released on Switch. The game was released on PC back in 2016. Developed by just one developer — enthusiast Eric Barone — it has sold 3.5 million digital copies on Steam alone. According to the approximate estimate of the author of the service Sergey Galenkin, the game earned $ 24 million in the first year alone.
