Video games Raised $25 million through Crowdfunding last year

Gaming startups in 2017 received about $ 25 million in total with the help of collective funding on crowdfunding resources, according to the analytical company Ico Partners.

According to researchers, the annual volume of gaming crowdfunding has decreased by less than 2% compared to 2016.

Ico Partners clarified that this amount does not take into account fees for unfinished projects.

Kickstarter remains the leading platform in terms of the amount of funds raised. In 2017, with its help, we successfully financed the development of 350 games and raised $ 17 million for this. This is 9% lower than the result of 2016.

Last year, three game projects were able to raise more than $ 1 million for development. Each of them did it on a separate platform.

  • The role-playing MMO Ashes of Creation received $3.2 million on Kickstarter.
  • The sequel to the role-playing hit Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire from Obsidian collected $4.4 million on Fig.
  • The sprite retro RPG Noob The Video game raised $1.5 million on Ulule, the French equivalent of Kickstarter (the Noob funding campaign became the largest in the history of Ulule)

Summing up the results of the year, the head of Ico Partners Thomas Bidaux stated a slight stagnation in the development of the gaming crowdfunding market, but also noted the emergence of new platforms, such as Fig.
