Niantic will relaunch the progenitor game Pokémon GO next year
Niantic Studio is ready to breathe new life into Ingress — its first geolocation-based game. Ingress’ experience formed the basis for the incredible success of Pokémon GO, which Niantic released a few years later.
Ingress is scheduled to restart next year. The new edition will be called Ingress Prime. The developers promise to completely redesign the interface, interaction experience and sound, as well as add a new plot to the game.
The global player rating will be reset to zero, but existing gamers will keep the earned levels and items.
To promote Ingress Prime, an anime will be released next year.
John Hanke, founder and head of Niantic Studio, noted that Ingress “for the first time demonstrated Niantic’s ability to create a live gaming experience that could become a driving force for positive change around the world.”
