Epic Games Founder: “App Stores take too much from developers”

The head of Epic Games, Tim Sweeney, believes that mobile app stores take away the lion’s share of revenue from mobile game developers.

Sweeney said this at the international conference of video game developers Devcom, which is taking place these days in the city of Cologne.

“At the moment, this system is quite unfair: app stores take 30% of your income. For example, Mastercard, Visa and other companies receive only 2-3% commission from transactions,” the game designer believes.

According to Tim Sweeney, the real costs of app stores for presenting developer products and other services do not exceed 6% of the revenue that applications earn.

He also pointed out that it is almost impossible for ordinary developers to break through to the top of the charts, which are occupied by titles with a marketing budget under $ 100 million. The head of Epic Games called it a “market failure.”

Sweeney urged colleagues in the video game industry to stop putting up with the situation and constantly look for new ways to bring their creations to gamers.
