Nickelodeon invested in Minecraft tournaments
Nickelodeon children’s TV channel has entered the world of esports by investing in an American company that organizes virtual tournaments Super League Gaming.
Nickelodeon has attracted the opportunity to finance gaming events aimed at a younger audience — Minecraft tournaments, which Super League Gaming is engaged in along with other esports disciplines.
“Nickelodeon is interested in esports because games are an important part of life for children today,” said Matthew Evans, vice president of the company’s digital business division.
In the last investment round, Super League Gaming raised $15 million. In addition to Nickelodeon, the money was allocated to DMG Entertainment, Toba Capital and Cali Group.
They were joined by Jeffrey Vinik, the owner of the Tampa Bay Lightnings hockey team in the NHL.
Since its creation in 2014, Super League Gaming has raised more than $28 million in investments.
