Apple will give software developers the opportunity to return subscribers with discounts
Apple will allow developers to reduce the cost of subscribing to games and apps for iOS, macOS and tvOS at any time and for all customers — including those who have canceled their subscription. So the creators of the software will be able to return the departed users and increase the customer base.
“In the near future,” according to Apple representatives, developers will be able to make subscription discounts for new, current and departed users. According to TechCrunch, three functions will be available:
- make a subscription free for a certain period at any time (for example, on holidays or on the anniversary of the release of the application);
- reduce the subscription price for a certain period (for example, three months of access to the app at half price);
- offer the client to pay for the subscription for six months or a year in advance.
For more control over discounts and promotions, developers will be allowed to set up to 10 different subscription prices at once.
Now discounts are available only for a new audience. For example, you can offer a client a free trial version of the application with the expectation that they will later subscribe for the full price. But it is not yet possible to offer a discount to customers whose subscription period is about to expire.
The future innovation will allow you to offer a discount even to those who have disabled automatic subscription renewal. There is a possibility that users will intentionally disable auto-renewal in order to get a favorable discount.
Let’s add that the company has already tested this strategy on Apple Music subscribers. In February, the company offered the departed customers a free three-month subscription.
