The FTC has filed a complaint against Microsoft in court over the price increase of Game Pass

The United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC) continues its efforts to challenge Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard. On July 18, it supplemented its appeal with a statement criticizing the increase in Game Pass prices and the introduction of a subscription tier that does not include games at launch.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6

The FTC called the updated subscription a "degrading product." It noted that the changes to Game Pass are occurring just before the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, with the new Call of Duty being available at the most expensive subscription tier. The commission reminded that it had warned about this kind of scenario in the event of the merger between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard.

"Price increases and the deterioration of Microsoft’s product quality, coupled with reduced investment in producing quality products due to employee layoffs, are indicators of a company abusing its market position post-merger," stated the FTC.
