Apple has filed an appeal against the court's decision in the proceedings with Epic Games

A month ago, Apple doubted whether it should appeal the verdict of the court in the case with Epic Games. But last Friday, the company decided and filed an appeal. According to experts, the proceedings can drag on for years.

Recall that the trial between Apple and Epic Games ended on September 10.

Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers rejected most of Epic Games’ claims, but ruled that Apple should allow developers to add links/buttons to other payment methods to applications. The decision should come into force on December 9.

According to CNBC, although Apple previously called such a verdict its “big victory”, now it has changed its mind. According to the corporation, changing the payment policy of the App Store will harm the security of “users, developers and the entire iOS platform.”

With the help of the appeal, Apple hopes to at least delay the easing of the App Store rules. It should be noted that the court will start considering the petition only in November. CNBC experts have suggested that it may take several years before the end of the process.

The head of Epic Games, Tim Sweeney, ironically reacted to Apple’s act. On Twitter, he beat the consonance of the words appeal and peel (peel, it looks like the name of one of the Fortnite characters). He also compared the buttons in the applications with those that launch nuclear missiles: “If you allow buttons to be inserted into the software, then because of this, the iPhone will explode and kill you or, even worse, cancel the warranty.”

Earlier, Epic Games also asked the court to reconsider the case.

Proceedings between the companies began last August after Apple removed the Fortnite game from the App Store. The reason was that Epic Games added its own payment system to the title, which allowed bypassing the store commission.
