PUBG Corp. sued Epic Games over similarities between PUBG and Fortnite

The creators of PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS have filed a lawsuit against Epic Games. South Korean studio PUBG Corp. accuses the authors of Fortnite of encroaching on their intellectual property — they believe that Fortnite Battle Royale is too similar to PUBG.

This is reported by The Korea Times newspaper.

On May 25, a PUBG representative said that the firm filed a lawsuit in the Seoul Central District Court against the South Korean office of Epic Games. According to the representative of the company, the complaint of copyright infringement was filed in January of this year.

In particular PUBG Corp. Claims that Epic Games borrowed “key elements and user interface” from PUBG for the Fortnite Battle Royale “battle Royale” mode.

The Korea Times notes that the judicial activity of PUBG Corp. It may be related to the advent of Epic Games on the local gaming market. In January, the American company signed an agreement with the South Korean online publisher Neowiz Games to release Fortnite in the second quarter of this year.

PUBG Corp. he is already suing the Chinese publisher NetEase for a similar reason. The developers of the popular “battle royale” believe that NetEase uses the concept and style of their game in their Knives Out mobile project without permission. NetEase, in turn, insist that Knives Out is an original product with its own ideas and solutions.
