In Germany, games with loot boxes may be restricted

The German authorities saw the mechanics of loot boxes as a threat to young people. The reason for the concern of officials was the research of the University of Hamburg. Scientists have come to the conclusion that video games are increasingly converging with gambling, Welt reports.

Based on these data, the chairman of the Commission for the Protection of Youth of the state body for the regulation of mass media and media stated that such a trend may violate laws prohibiting the promotion of gambling to children and adolescents.

The Commission for the Protection of Youth promised to deliver its verdict on the loot boxes in March this year.

Before Germany, the authorities of Belgium, Australia, New Zealand, as well as the administrations of some US states conducted their investigations into loot boxes and their connection with gambling.

Despite this, until now, loot boxes have not been banned at the legislative level in any of the countries.
