The Spanish authorities have sent € 6.5 million to support indie developers

Independent game studios are subsidized in Spain. The government of the country has approved a budget grant of €6.5 million for indie developers.

The allocated amount is three times the size of the grant for similar needs, which was canceled last week by the decision of the Minister of Energy, Tourism and Digital Technologies Alvaro Nadal (Alvaro Nadal) without explanation.

The previous government grant was planned to be divided among 20 developers, each of whom was to receive from €50 thousand to € 150 thousand. Priority was given to teams of no more than 5 people who are currently working on their projects.

The Spanish government issues grants of up to €150,000 to local gaming companies that have existed for at least six months and earn no more than €2 million a year.

In addition to Spain, game developers are supported at the state level in the UK. The Government of the United Kingdom finances grant competitions, on the basis of which game studios with a staff of up to 50 employees can receive support in the amount of up to £ 25 thousand, and single developers – up to £ 15 thousand.

In the USA, creators of educational video games under the Small Business Innovation Research program can apply for grant support from the government. The United States Department of Education is ready to pay from $150,000 to $1 million to the authors of “viable educational technologies”, which may include gaming applications.
