Tencent has bought a majority stake in Swedish indie studio Stunlock Studios

Another deal with Tencent. The Chinese giant has bought a controlling stake in Stunlock Studios, which is known for the isometric desktop MOBA Battlerite. The amount of the transaction was not disclosed.

V Rising
Stunlock Studios will retain its corporate structure and creative independence.

At the same time, she will gain access to Tencent’s development tools and extensive experience in the gaming industry.

Note that the companies have already worked together. They started collaborating back in 2016, with the release of Battlerite in China. In 2019, Tencent acquired a minority stake in a Swedish developer.

Tencent's new investments show great confidence in a studio that makes high-quality games with special attention to gameplay. This will give us the opportunity to realize the grand vision of V Rising — the game that we are currently developing. This will also help in future endeavors, as our studio will continue to expand in the long term.

Rickard Frisegård

CEO of Stunlock Studios

Stunlock Studios opened in 2010. The studio became known largely thanks to Battlerite, which has been played by more than 6.5 million unique users since its release in 2017. Among other titles of Stunlock Studios, Battlerite Royale and Dead Island: Epidemic were noted. Now the Swedes are working on the vampire survival V Rising, it has no official release date yet.
