During the year, Epic Games invested $13 million in 200 development teams
Epic Games has already invested $13 million in projects for Unreal Engine and 3D developers. In less than a year, 200 teams received financial support from Epics.
The company is investing in the Unreal Engine community as part of the Epic MegaGrants initiative. The launch of the program was announced in March. Its authors have budgeted $100 million, $ 13 million of which has already been spent on the creators of games, tools for Unreal Engine, entertainment and educational applications.
Grants from Epic Games range from $5,000 to half a million dollars. This is significantly more than was given out under the Unreal Dev Grants program, the predecessor of Epic MegaGrants.
However, the authors of the free 3D editor Blender received $ 1.2 million from Epic Games. This is the largest grant for the year. The team will be transferred cash tranches within three years.
The multiple increase in the amount attracted a lot of attention to the new initiative. The company has approved funding for a record number of teams — 200. It exceeds the number of Unreal Dev Grants funded over four years.
Through Epic MegaGrants, we provide unprecedented support to developers and creators of tools. This is how we allow talented teams and individual developers to realize their artistic and technical ambitions. CEO of Unreal Engine
Let’s add that Epic Games does not claim the intellectual property of the teams. They are also not restricted in the choice of sites for distribution.
