Sony bought Insomniac Games studio
Insomniac Games is now under the wing of Sony. The publisher announced the purchase of the authors of several exclusive games for his console.
Spyro: Reignited Trilogy
This deal has been planned for a long time, said the head of Sony Interactive Entertainment Shawn Layden in an interview for Bloomberg.
Sony and Insomniac have been working together for years. The latter created hits for all generations of Sony PlayStation. Including Marvel’s Spider-Man and Spyro: Reignited Trilogy for PS4.
Nevertheless, the studio’s portfolio also includes an exclusive Xbox One — Sunset Overdrive. As well as the Stormland VR title for Oculus only.
Now Insomniac will focus only on Sony consoles. There are suggestions that the studio is preparing a new exclusive title for the future PS5. With a high probability it could be a sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man, which sold 13.2 million copies in almost a year.
Note that the developer has been independent since its foundation in 1994.
By the way, the community took this news, on the whole, positively.
Insomniac became part of Sony. While Microsoft is buying up every trash, Sony is spot-picking diamonds.

Хоть она и мало кого удивила.
Sunset Overdrive was an outlier and surprising enough that many know it as “the xbox exclusive Insomniac game”.
They’ve basically been a Sony studio for the last 20 years anyway.
— Danny Horney (@DannyHorney) August 20, 2019″This deal was discussed more than 10 years ago — because of the very close relationship (of the studio) with Sony.
That’s why the release of Sunset Overdrive — an Xbox exclusive from Insomniac — was so unexpected. Insomniac has actually been owned by Sony for the last 20 years.”
