Epic Games has acquired a social video chat platform Houseparty
Epic Games has added Houseparty to the piggy bank of its assets. This is the so-called “synchronous social network” for group communication via video chat.
Houseparty announces its joining the creators of Fortnite and Unreal Engine in its blog. The value of the transaction is unknown.
So far, the application is functioning normally. She promises that all user contacts will be saved. Combining the accounts of Houseparty and Epic Games is not expected. All data of users of the social network will be stored separately.
The purchase of Houseparty is regarded by the participants as an exchange of experience. Together they hope to “make communication (of users) easier and more enjoyable.” According to the CEO of Houseparty, Sima Sistani, the two companies have a common view on how online communication should be built.
According to Engadget, it is likely that the acquisition of Houseparty will inspire Epic Games to create a similar application.
Houseparty was created in 2015 by the developers of the streaming service Meerkat. The social network supports video chats on various platforms, including iOS, macOS and Android devices. Up to eight people can participate in group calls.
