The author of an indie quest for $ 140 thousand has not yet earned a cent
The creator of the adventure game Where The Water Tastes Like Wine (WTWTLW), Johnnemann Nordhagen, admitted that he earned $ 0 on the game. Nordhagen invested more than $140 thousand of personal funds in his work and spent 4 years on it.
Yonneman devoted a post-mortem analysis to this and other issues, published on the platform on Medium.
The independent developer clarified that the proceeds from the sales of WTWTLW were just enough to pay off the rest of the participants in the creation of the title.
Nordhagen admitted that he did not fully understand how it happened. His project was widely covered in the gaming press and received several awards. Famous screenwriters and artists worked on the game, and one of the characters was voiced by the world-famous singer Sting.
However, all this barely allowed him to go to zero.
According to Steam Spy, the number of users of the game on Steam has not reached the mark of 10 thousand people.
The developer does not lose hope for the best and continues to assert that games of experimental genres can be successful.
Nordhagen intends to continue working on Where The Water Tastes Like Wine. The next update will be released in May.
Where The Water Tastes Like Wine was released on March 1 this year on PC and macOS.
