Ubisoft has closed its studio in the United Kingdom and laid off nearly 200 people

Ubisoft has announced the closure of its Leamington division. Ubisoft Leamington, originally known as FreeStyleGames, functioned as a support studio in recent years, contributing to the development of Star Wars Outlaws, Skull and Bones, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Far Cry 5, and other games.

Ubisoft also announced layoffs in three teams:

  • Ubisoft Düsseldorf (formerly known as Blue Byte);
  • Ubisoft Stockholm;
  • Ubisoft Reflections;

As a result of the current restructuring, a total of 185 people have been left without jobs at Ubisoft. It is unclear how many employees lost their jobs at each specific studio. Likely, a significant portion of the affected workers were from Ubisoft Leamington; according to the studio's LinkedIn account, it employed just under 100 people at the time of closure.

Ubisoft explained the situation as part of an ongoing restructuring. The company hopes to reduce costs and ensure stability in the long term.

Remember, Ubisoft began significantly downsizing in 2022. If in September 2022 it employed over 20,700 people, then as of September 2024, the number of employees was 18,600.
