Reflector Entertainment, the developer behind Unknown 9, is reportedly experiencing layoffs
Reflector Entertainment has recently reduced its workforce following the release of its first game, Unknown 9: Awakening, which debuted a month ago.
This development was initially reported by Ethan Gach from Kotaku on BlueSky. Additional information was provided by GameDeveloper, highlighting that several affected professionals have shared updates about the situation on LinkedIn.
The precise number of laid-off employees remains unknown, but reports suggest that teams dealing with quality assurance, marketing, art, and narrative have been affected. Among those looking for new opportunities are narrative and game designer Anna Karina Bermudez and brand manager Manou Deneuvel.
Reflector Entertainment is the creator of Unknown 9: Awakening, which is part of an interconnected transmedia universe that extends into a podcast audio drama, novels, and a comic book series.
Reflector joined forces with Bandai Namco for publishing, with the Japanese firm acquiring Reflector in 2020 in anticipation of Unknown 9's launch.
The game was first scheduled to release in the summer but faced a delay, launching on October 18, 2024, to a varied reception. The sales performance of the game is not yet apparent.
GamesIndustry.biz has contacted Bandai Namco for further details and to obtain a statement.
