The Communication Workers of America union accused Sony of increasing its monopoly after the recent closure of two studios

The Communications Workers of America (CWA, the U.S. communications workers union) criticized Sony for closing Firewalk Studios and Neon Koi, accusing it of attempting to strengthen its monopoly on the market.

"Sony has chosen simply to eliminate studios that operate outside its closed ecosystem of exclusive content for PlayStation, instead of developing games for a diverse and competitive mobile gaming market," CWA stated.

It is unclear why the union mentions only the mobile market, considering that Firewalk Studios was developing Concord for the PC and console segments.

The organization also expressed concern for the future of developers working in conditions of uncertainty and mass layoffs. According to CWA, such actions only increase pressure from large corporations, allowing them to dictate terms to employees.

CWA plans to discuss the issue of Sony's unfair competition and its consequences with antitrust bodies.

As of now, the Japanese company has not commented on the union's statement.
