Riot Games continues to lay off employees, with another 32 workers being affected

Riot Games is conducting a new round of layoffs, the second this year. During this round, the League of Legends team will lose 27 employees, and the publishing division will see five positions cut.

The layoffs were initially reported by Riot Games co-founder Marc Merrill. He stated on social media that the decision was made to ensure more effective long-term development of League of Legends. The top executive emphasized that this was not a cost-saving measure. Furthermore, Riot Games plans to continue investing significantly in the game. Merrill assured that the layoffs will not impact the pace of work on League of Legends, and the team could expand again in the future if needed at a new stage.

Later, a Riot Games representative confirmed the layoff information in a media comment.

This marks the third wave of layoffs at Riot Games since the start of 2023. Last year, the company laid off 46 employees as part of a restructuring. In January 2024, it cut another 530 employees (11% of its workforce) and closed its Riot Forge publishing division due to ineffective investments and a desire to focus on key projects.
