Finnish Fingersoft offered employees to work four days a week, but for 90% of the salary

Fingersoft, a mobile studio from Finland, decided to conduct an experiment and offered employees to work less. They can switch to a four-day work week or work six hours a day. However, there is a nuance. All those who agree will have their salaries reduced by 10%.

Note that it was possible to work part-time at Fingersoft before, but then the salary decreased much more.

The experiment will last six months of the year. According to the company’s management, it will allow developers to improve the balance between work and personal life.

We understand that all people are different and go through different stages in life. Someone normally works eight hours a day, and someone wants to maintain a balance between work and personal life by reducing working hours. Nevertheless, many people used to dislike that because of this they earn less. We are convinced that people, especially from the creative industry, can increase the value of their work and prevent burnout if they have more time to rest. That's why we offer everyone who wants to work 80% of their standard hours during a six-month experiment, 90% of their salary. Based on the results of this test, we will decide whether to finally switch to such a model in the future.

Jaakko Kylmäoja,

CEO of Fingersoft

As Kulmaaoya adds, “a huge number” of employees have already approved the experiment and agreed to switch to a reduced work schedule. In total, there are about a hundred people on the staff of Fingersoft.

Recently it became known that another gaming company adheres to a similar practice — Young Horses, which developed the Bugsnax adventure game. Also from this week, Dontnod, the author of Life Is Strange and Tell Me Why, allows his employees to work completely remotely.

Fingersoft was founded in 2012, in Finland. During this time, the studio has released two mobile games: Hill Climb Racing and Hill Climb Racing 2. At the moment, they have collected a total of 1.5 billion downloads.
